Our story

After moving to Norway from the UK in 2016 with my Norwegian wife, Freya, the idea for Ties to Norway began because I was tired of wearing the same red tie to celebrate the Norwegian constitution day on the 17th May each year.

I wanted a better way to show my appreciation for the day and my connection to Freya and her family.

I love the bunad tradition, but I wouldn't have felt comfortable buying one for myself. So, I started looking for the next best thing: a tie matching Freya's bunad from Øst-Telemark.

After a bit of searching, I had good news and bad news. The good news was that these 'bunad ties' did already exist!

The bad news was that they were made from thick wool and cost a lot more than I could ever justify spending on a tie.

Over the years, I met more and more people in a similar situation to me, who also wanted something special to wear on occasions like the 17th of May, weddings, confirmations, Julebord, og så videre...

So, in February 2024, I decided I had to do something about it, and Ties to Norway was born!

Our ties have been designed with care and are inspired by traditional bunad patterns from a variety of regions across Norway. They are made from high-quality 100% silk fabric to ensure a classic look and feel that goes with any suit.

Our mission is to make it more inclusive for people to wear the colours and patterns of the bunad that means something to them, and to help people feel a deeper bond and sense of belonging to Norway.
